Pulling up and other favorite activities
Max's new favorite activity is to pull himself up on things. The sofa, the table, bookshelves, and lately, the cat's scratching post. Thankfully, he also seems to have figured out how to lower himself down again without banging his head. I expect that when he realizes that the upright position is good for walking, we'll have a lot of banged heads around here.

He is really showing less and less interest in walking, though. If you try to hold his hands and let him walk, he squirms until you let him get down and crawl, which he vastly prefers.

The crawling has slimmed him down. When we went to the 9 month checkup a couple of weeks ago, Max had dropped all the way down to the 80th percentile in weight, down from the 97th. He is still at the 75th percentile for height.
Max also loves his nightly bath, in part because of the fabulous bath toys people have given him and in part because he likes the They Might Be Giants CD that his dad puts on during his bath.

He is showing some interest in books,

and sleeping! All night long!!

Maxwell goes East

Max just took his first trip to NYC and to the Carmalt family's gathering place in Friendsville, Pennsylvania. It was an eventful trip! Max tried his first Turkish food (which he loved), took his first subway ride (which he also loved), and had his first swim in Lake Choconut (which he did not love). Here are some pictures from the trip. Thank you very much to our wonderful family and friends for being such fantastic hosts! Especially Margaret, who braved having two adults and a baby for the weekend in her NYC apartment.

Welcome to Max's blog

Since we are having a hard time finding time to update the webpage, we thought we would start a (simple! easy to update!) blog instead. So welcome to Max's blog. Max is just over 7 months old, and he is currently sitting very well, trying hard to crawl (but failing, though he is quite good at a backwards belly crawl), and is still toothless.
Here are some recent photos:

Max loves to swing.
